St Helen's Churchyard
Churchyards are places of solace and peace for people, and being relatively undisturbed and free from chemical inputs, nature can also thrive there. St Helen's Churchyard is a surprisingly tranquil place despite the busy roads nearby.
Botanical surveys in the 1990s recorded up to 107 species there. Reduced mowing of parts of the churchyard during the spring is revealing that many of our beautiful native wildflowers are still present. Supported with advice by BNG, the Parochial Church Council is interested in improving understanding of the wildlife that is present in St Helen’s churchyard.
